Introduction
Albert G. Mackey’s Encyclopedia of Freemasonry was originally published as two volumes; Volume I (1873) & Vol II (1878). It was later revised and enlarged by Robert Clegg, and published as a three volume set, on which this website is primarily based - Volume 1, A to Lyons, Congress Of; Volume 2, M to Zurthost. Volume 3, a supplement to Mackey’s Encyclopedia of Freemasonry with illustrations, appendices and descriptive index, A to Zuni Indians.
Encyclopedia of Freemasonry Project
This website contains a freely available e-text version of Mackey’s Encyclopedia. The condition of the text is variable in quality, and many corrections are still required. The addition of original pictures, diagrams, and non-English words (primarily Hebrew and Greek) will be a continuing project for some time. There are over 4800 articles to check through, correcting spelling, punctuation, adding images, and generally tidying up the entries.
A number of entries (articles) are currently missing. If you are able to supply scanned copies of the relevant entries, please email them to: masonpedia@gmail.com.
While reading through the entries, I have come across the occasional factual error or discrepancy in spelling. Rather than correct Mackey’s original text, I have felt it expedient to add editorial notes in brackets, in the format [Ed. 2010]. Likewise, in some entries I have decided to add some additional information or editorial notes to add to the already usefulness of the text, and occasionally for added clarity.
